Andrew Caddell wheeled the Kaufmann Racing Mustang to fastest laps in practice, qualification and Race 10 of the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup. Team Principal Kaufmann advised they had a new FR500S Mustang they had planned on running at the Finals, but with all the time between races they decided to “dance with the gal that brought you. This car has just been so good, so dependable and so fast that breaking in a new racecar made no sense. Andrew was superb from the first practice session. He gives us so much data on the radio during each session then works with his Dad to evaluate video & data afterwards. I think this year proved to all, he is the real deal.”
Andrew once again attended several PR and TV programs during the week, but none excited him more than meeting with the kids of the Austin Hatcher Foundation. Between the race sessions Andrew put one kid after another in the race car and the smiles he generated were priceless. Andrew also donated the helmet that he wore to more wins than anyone in Mustang Challenge History to the Hatcher Foundation. Kaufmann and Caddell agreed when they started the season that they would dedicate their season to the memory of Larry H. Miller. Kaufmann admitted he was very pleased that the example Andrew was setting was so positive to him. This is right out of the Larry Miller playbook: Giving comes back to us tenfold.
Kaufmann-Caddell Team could have won the Championship by placing 21st in the last race, but they had run hard all year and they all had a bad taste in their mouth from holding position in Chicago. They knew they could get taken out on the first lap and end up second for the year, but they had a team meeting and elected to just run with the lead and save the tires and brakes, in case of a late yellow flag. Andrew never missed a mark and it was great to finish the season as they started it, with another win.
A season that you make 10 straight podiums and run every test session, every practice session and every lap of every race with most poles, most track records and most laps led without a failure speaks volumes for the quality of the components and the preparation by Kaufmann Racing crew Rob Caddell and Aaron Hoekstra.
