August 15, 2007 PCI Racing Trophy Truck #7 begins early planning for an OVERALL WIN in the 40th anniversary running of the Baja 1000.
San Diego, CA driver, Dave Sykes and Cypress, CA driver, Scott Steinberger announced today that they will be teaming up to race the 40th running of the 2007 SCORE Baja 1000. Running under the PCI Racing banner, and competing in the #7 Fabtech/Toyo Tire Trophy truck, “We plan on splitting the course into sections and aggressively attacking the race” announced Sykes.
Dave Sykes has been racing for the past 14 years in the Syko Racing and Andataco Motorsports trucks. Sykes has already won three (3) previous Baja 1000’s and numerous podium finishes. This will be Sykes’s 14th entry in the Baja 1000 and he will be racing for his third different class win.
“Teaming up with Scott and his professional team for this world renowned race is exactly what I have been looking for. I am excited to be able to team up with someone of Scott’s caliber and race the 2007 Baja 1000 with him. Scott has proven himself for 18 years as the off-road driver to beat. We will be a formidable and proven pair to tackle the BAJA peninsula. We both have competed at the highest levels in desert racing, backed up by results proving that we can win on any weekend. This is the race to win and the combination of our two teams gives us a solid opportunity to win the overall” Sykes said.
Scott Steinberger has been driving the PCI Racing Team #7 Fabtech/Toyo Tire Trophy truck for the past 6 years and has been off road racing since 1988. Scott has won championships in three different classes. He also has five Baja 1000 race wins and over 20 different individual races victories. “I am excited to enter my 18th Baja 1000 and look forward to teaming up with Dave Sykes who has proven that he can compete at any speed and in any class in the off road racing business. This looks to be an extremely tough race course that will be a perfect match for our well proven Trophy Truck’s capabilities. ” says Steinberger .
The #7 Fabtech/Toyo Tire Trophy truck is outfitted by Fabtech, Toyo Tires, PCI Race Radios, Hella, Mastercraft, Borla, Neo, True Flow, Signpros and Sign Methods.
Look for this winning truck at all the pre race events and festivities.

July 2, 2007 SCORE CEO Sal Fish announced the proposed course for the 40th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.
The race will ceremoniously begin in Tijuana, Mexico on Sunday, November 11, 2007 with racers parading from Tijuana to Ensenada. Monday November 12th will be technical inspection and contingency with the race starting on Tuesday morning.
This special peninsula run will follow the same route as the 2007 SCORE Tecate Baja 500 until turning right after the water crossing at Mike's Sky Rancho and then going up the steps, descending to El Coyote, jumping back on the 2007 500 course in reverse to San Telmo, behind Meling Ranch and down to Santa Domingo.
From Santa Domingo the course stays East of Highway 1 to El Rosario then heads South-East to the mines of El Marmol before merging on to Highway 1 North of Catavina. Rally Loggers enforce the 60 mph speed limit before hitting the dry lake at Chapala on the way to Coco's corner. Into the Calamajue Wash, heading for Bahia de Los Angeles.
From Bay of LA to San Ignacio it's a familiar journey duplicating of the 2006 SCORE Baja 1000 course. From San Ignacio South West to Scorpion Bay via El Datil, climbing into the mountains before emerging in Loreto. With an almost a straight shot to Constitucion before venturing on to Las Pocitas. A beach run brings us to El Tepetate before continuing South towards Todos Santos following the Baja 2000 course to Cabo San Lucas approximate mileage: 1300 |

May 26, 2007 Chet Huffman Motorsports has hired us for the Baja 500. After seeing the file we did for Robby Gordon Motorsports, they purchased GPS files and instruction, assorted custom race maps with pre running and race support for the 5 days leading up to the race. |
|
May 23, 2007 Just got back from pre running the Baja 500 with Robby Gordon Motorsports. We tested out a new GPS file that has this years 500 course, chase roads, old courses, highways and a whole bunch of tricks put together as one file
Robby's comment was that it has too much information on the screen for him as a driver!
A special "drivers" version is being created to address that issue. |

President Fox Commends SCORE Officials
text by connie ellig
In racing, timing is everything. On June 1, President Vicente Fox made an official visit to the port of Ensenada to preside over Dia de la Marina (Navy Day) activities on the same day that SCORE officials were putting the finishing touches on the upcoming 38th Tecate SCORE Baja 500 Desert Race scheduled for June 2-4. Following the inauguration of Expomar marine exposition, SCORE President/CEO Sal Fish and SCORE Mexican Liaison/Attorney Oscar Ramos took advantage of the opportunity to greet President Fox and present him with a SCORE racing jacket and a handsome plaque featuring a three-dimensional scale model of Scott Steinberger's #7 SCORE Trophy-Truck. It was the first time that either SCORE official had met the Mexican President.
It was an incredible coincidence that President Fox was in town on the eve of the oldest desert race in the world and it was very gracious of him to meet with us, declared Sal Fish. We spent about five to seven minutes talking he is very charismatic and has a presence about him. He thanked us for our thirty-plus years of bringing tourism to the Baja peninsula. Meeting President Fox is definitely one of the highlights of my involvement with SCORE International Off-Road Racing.
President Fox was very interested and aware of our race, stated Oscar Ramos. It was a unique opportunity to meet him and invite him to our November Baja 1000, which will be the last SCORE race under his presidential administration.
With the right timing, perhaps President Fox will be among the hundreds of thousands of race aficionados who turn out for the 39th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, an epic desert race down the Baja California peninsula from Ensenada to La Paz on November 15-18, 2006. |

March 12, 2006 - San Felipe, Mexico
Race morning started off with a beautiful sunrise over the Sea of Cortez in downtown San Felipe, but the weather quickly changed and on depending where you were on the race course it ranged from sunny skies and a slight breeze to windy and rain and up on the Northern edge, snow. Starting 22nd out of 24 Trophy Trucks taking the green flag at 30-second intervals Scott Steinberger and Justin Harchar, in his first race as co-rider, went huge off the jumps at Zoo Road causing the standing room only crowd to roar with approval.
While charging up through the field, a nerf to a slower TT caused some damage to the hood latches forcing an unscheduled stop at race mile 55. PCI Racing Pit Captain, Matt Hendrich, and crew quickly removed the damaged front end allowing Scott and Justin to rejoin the hunt without losing a position. After passing checkpoint 1, in 13th place on corrected time, Scott put the hammer down and picked up 7 more spots arriving at race mile 93 for a planned fuel stop 6th on the road. The PCI crew performed a flawless stop dumping 45 gallons of VP Race Fuel in under 25 seconds - without losing a position. Trophy Truck #7 continued on a fast, steady pace coming out of Matomi Wash at race mile 196 as the 4th truck on the road. PCI Racing Pit Captain, Rob Bowman, and crew performed a timed fuel stop, again with no loss of race position.
At race mile, 200 things started to heat up literally. The EFI digital display showed the engine water temperature was quickly approaching damaging levels and they needed to stop. PCI chase trucks arrived quickly and started changing out the water pump, as the bid for a podium finish evaporated. In spite of the fast response and repair work by the team, the stop was costly: losing over an hour of time and 4 positions on course. At race mile 222 PCI Pit Captain, Brian Lawrence, and crew replaced a spare tire lost somewhere on Old Puertecitios Road while charging hard to make up for lost time. Crossing the finish line 5 hours 31 minutes after it all started, the PCI Team was relegated to a hard fought 8th place finish. |

January 13, 2006 - Laughlin, NV - If the drivers are the rock stars in the Trophy Truck world, the pit crew must be the roadies. Congratulations to Jerry Wines, Justin Harchar, Ralph Barrera, Knute Fredholm, Tom Sobray and the whole PCI Racing team for a strong 3rd place finish in the Laughlin Pit Crew Competition. “Those NASCAR guys have it easy working on a flat concrete surface! We had a slight miscue on the rear tires and the supplied air pressure was lower than our 200-psi nitrogen set up we normally use. Our live race stops are considerable faster, we got beat by 2 faster teams today”. Special thanks go to Dave Johnson from SCORE for putting on a great event. |
|
January 12, 2006 - Laughlin, NV - The #7 PCI Racing Trophy Truck launched into a cold, starlit Laughlin sky tonight traveling 154 feet before returning to earth during the Laughlin Leap competition. Leaving the jump just a bit sideways driver Scott Steinberger gave the sold out crowd a thrill but had it all under control. “The cold dense air is helping the motor make so much power its killing our traction; I have to peddle the throttle so she’ll hook up”. The second of two attempts came up a foot shorter. We’ll have to settle for 3rd place, but judging by all the camera flashes #7 gave the fans a great show. Carl Renezeder took the win at 159 feet; second place was Dale Dondel at 156 feet. |
|
January 11, 2006 - Barstow, CA - #7 Trophy Truck driver Scott Steinberger and the PCI Racing Team just completed final testing for this weekends SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge. “The truck has never felt better, it’s the fastest the truck has ever gone” are the words from Scott after climbing out of the Fabtech, Toyo Tires, Ford F150. “Right out of the transporter she was extremely fast, in every gear it just pushes you further into the seat, I can’t wait for this weekend!”
Leaving the starting line 3rd of 32 Trophy Trucks, starting in pairs every 20 seconds, it will take 5 minutes to start the field. On an 8-mile racecourse, the first lap leader will be hot on the tails of the last starters and Scott is on a mission to be that leader. “Patton Racing Engines found more horsepower with new cylinder heads and a new spec camshaft, the dyno numbers were impressive, driving it was unbelievable!” Scott said. “The team has put together the best truck yet, we made no major adjustments during the test, we are ready to race.” |
|
September 12, 2005 - The SCORE Primm 300 was full of highs and lows, great weather, full crowd at the Tree Bar and lots of great teamwork by the PCI team. Jesse moved up 8 spots in the first 20 miles and then stuff started to happen. Our DNF because of fuel pressure is a tough one to take especially after we got it fixed, we just ran out of time. The official press release is being approved; it will be posted when finished.
Last week on Tuesday night, we had pit stop practice and it was a huge success. A few guys who never changed a tire on # 7 got their chance and after a few try’s everyone’s ego started to swell. Justin Harchar was the fastest followed by Bizcut in the sub 25-second category; everyone else was 32 seconds or better. A few of the guys tried out the fuel hoses and the jack duties as well.
The highlight of the night was the contest between Scotty vs. Mike Bursic, and when the torque wrench came out Scotty was the winner by 1 loose lug nut.
Scotty then picked up the tab for dinner at El Torrito to finish off a great night of bench racing, thrash talking and hanging out with the team.
Practice will continue every Tuesday night @ PCI starting at 6:00pm.
Tim Jones and the San Diego posse will be in town on an upcoming Saturday for some practice and to show us how then do it down south.
Vegas to Reno is happening October 6-8, 2005 we won it last year; lets make it back to back wins. We need a head count for the chase crews, let Bizcut or Tom Sobray know if you’re going.
October 15th is the Baja 1000 starting position drawing at the Lake Elsinore Casino starting @ 3:00pm. Fabtech is putting $5,000 up for a pit crew competition. No air tools???
If you took any photos at Primm or have any from previous races you want to share please forward them.
The temporary website has an ongoing new look, a contact page and some new photo galleries.
Suggestions and comments are always encouraged. |
|
September 9, 2005 - We will be going over race strategy, pit support and any other ideas or suggestions to get #7 a win!
A race map and proposed pit assignments are online now.
If you have an email address for any of the following people please reply with it.
Justin Harchar Rob Bowman Andy Thomas Jared Dick Jason Brightman Brian Lawrence Mike Bursick Brad Brown Dave Wachter. |
|
September 3, 2005 - Good morning everyone. PCI Racing is adding something new just in time for the SCORE Primm 300 September 9-10, 2005 an email newsletter and a website link to keep everybody up to speed.
You’re reading the first newsletter in an ongoing effort to keep the team up to date with news, race schedules and pit support planning. The website link is temporary until we get everything online at PCIRacing.com
